titleOfInvention Organic electroluminescent device
abstract An organic EL device has a hole injecting electroden(2), an electron injecting electrode (3), an organic layern(5) between the electrodes, and an inorganic insulating holeninjecting layer (4) between the hole injecting electrode (2)nand the organic layer (5). The inorganic insulating holeninjecting layer (4) consists essentially of silicon oxide orngermanium oxide or a mixture of silicon oxide and germaniumnoxide in an average composition represented by (Si 1-x Ge x )O y nwherein x and y are 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 and 1.7 ≤ y ≤ 1.99, asnanalyzed by Rutherford back-scattering. The device has thenadvantages of both organic and inorganic materials as wellnas a long lifetime, improved efficiency, low operatingnvoltage, and low cost.
