abstract The present invention provides a recording mediumnhaving an ink receiving layer on its base material, innwhich the ink receiving layer is obtained by coatingnthe base material with dispersed liquid containingnaluminum hydrate, a coupling agent, and a resinnemulsion having hydrolyzable groups expressed by thenfollowing general formula (1):n -MR n (OR') 3-n nwhere R and R' represent hydrogen or alkyl groups,nwhich may be either identical or different; nnrepresents an integer from 0 to 2; and M represents Si,nTi, or Zr. n In addition, the invention provides an imagenformation method for forming an image by ejecting inknfrom micropores to attach the ink on a recordingnmedium, in which the image formation method uses thenrecording medium described above. n Moreover, the invention also provides a productionnmethod of a recording medium that is produced bynforming an ink receiving layer on a base material, innwhich the ink receiving layer is formed by coating thenbase material with dispersed liquid containing aluminumnhydrate, a coupling agent, and a resin emulsion havingnhydrolyzable groups expressed by the general formulan(1), and thereafter drying the recording medium.
