titleOfInvention Process and reagent for the determination of iron, free of interferences
abstract Determination of iron in a biological sample, allowing use of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid, using group III main or side group metal cation. Determination of iron in a biological sample by release of the bound iron, reduction of the released iron to Fe(II), addition of a colored reagent solution and photometric measurement of the colored complex formed comprises treating the sample with a metal cation from group III main or side groups in the periodic table. Independent claims are included for: (1) use of water soluble salts from the group II side or main groups of the periodic table to prevent interference caused by ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) in the photometric determination of iron in a sample. (2) reagent combination for determination of iron in a biological sample comprising: (a) a first reagent for release of bound iron comprising 0.1-50 mmol/l water soluble salt of a group III main or side group metal; and separately (b) a second reagent comprising 0.5-50 mmol/l dye in aqueous solution or a dry mix for preparation of this.
