abstract The invention relates to a method for operating a printing press and to a printing press, in particular for carrying out the method, wherein the printing press has an inking unit (6) with a between an ink fountain roller (12) and an inking unit roller (15) with temporary contact with these rollers (12, 15) reciprocating lifter roller (14). The method is characterized in that the inking unit (6) is optionally operated in a normal operating mode and at least one color-reduced operating mode, the ink fountain roller (12) rotating in the color-reduced operating mode with a movement characteristic that deviates from the normal operating mode. The printing press is designed accordingly.
