titleOfInvention Composite material endoprosthesis
abstract An endoprosthesis includes a body structure formednof a biocompatible material, the body structure includingna first material having an average atomic number greaternthan 24 and a second material that is different than thenfirst material. The body structure has a mass absorptionncoefficient effective to provide a ratio of an intensitynof an incident X-ray to an intensity of a transmitted X-raynin a range of 1e -2 to 1e -4 . The endoprosthesis maynhave a yield strength not greater than 100,000 psi. Thenendoprosthesis may be in the form of a wire or a tube.nIn one embodiment the first material is present in annamount not greater than 9% by volume based on thencombined volume of the first and second materials. Innanother embodiment, about 30 to about 40% by volume ofnthe first material is present based on a combined volumenof the first and second materials in an endoprosthesis ofntubular form.
