Described is a process for producing one or morentastands including food, chewing gum, beverage (e.g., coffee, nmilk, cocoa and citrus/whey protein), oral care compositionn(e.g., toothpaste and mouthwash) and tobacco additives fromn Saccharum officinarum leaves (sugarcane leaves) by means ofncarrying out one or more physical separation unit operationsnon a plurality of such leaves, macerates thereof or mixturesnof leaves and macerates thereof whereby one or more naturalnfood, chewing gum, beverage, oral care composition or tobacconadditives is separated and isolated from the remainder of thenplurality of leaves, macerates thereof or mixtures of leavesnand macerates thereof. Such unit operations includenpressurization using hydraulic press means, steamndistillation, fractional distillation, supercritical carbonndioxide extraction, volatile solvent extraction and/orncharcoal column separation means. Also described isnapparatus for carrying out such processes as well as thenproducts produced using such processes and organoleptic usesnof such products. Also described are compositions comprisingn(a) such tastands in admixture with (b) an eatable having anbitter and/or metallic taste. The eatable is any ingestednmaterial taken by mammals, such as foodstuffs, beverages, nchewing gums, non-calorie food components or medicinesnincluding bitter chocolate or a drug such as ibuprofen.
