titleOfInvention Dental impression tray with improved adhesion to impression material
abstract A dental impression tray (10) has a receptacle (14) for receiving a quantity of dental impression material, and the receptable (14) is coated with an adhesive (22) for enhancing the bond between the impression material and the tray (10). The adhesive (22) is applied to the tray body (12) at least sixteen hours before the impression material is placed in the receptable (14). Advance coating of the adhesive (22) onto the tray body (12) provides a higher bond strength between the impression material and the tray (10) than would otherwise be observed. Precoating of the tray (10) by the manufacturer represents a time saving for the dental practitioner and also reduces the amount of volatilized solvent emitted from the adhesive (22) that might otherwise be emitted in the dental office.
