abstract An article of cookware comprises a body (2) having a basenregion that is at least partly formed of aluminium ornaluminium alloy having a steel cap (4) secured thereto bynan impact bonding process through an intermediate aluminiumnor aluminium alloy plate (6), the process including thensteps of (a) arranging an aluminium plate between the basenof the article and the steel cap; (b) heating the base ofnthe article, aluminium plate and steel cap to a temperaturensuch that the aluminium has softened: (c) arranging thenarticle with aluminium plate and steel cap in a press andnwhilst the temperature of the aluminium plate is such thatnthe aluminium remains soft, impacting the steel cap againstnthe base of the article and deforming the aluminium platenthereby forming a bond therebetween.
