A procedure for dyeing keratinous fibers, especially the hair, comprising the stages of (a) bleaching the keratinous fibers and (b) applying a tinctorial composition containing, in an aqueous medium, at least one partially dissolved basic direct dye, this composition being ready for use or having been prepared as required by mixing a powder component (P) containing at least one basic direct dye and an aqueous component (A).
