A guidewire (10,42) for use in endovascularnelectrothrombosis in combination with a microcatheter (44),nthe guidewire comprising:n a core wire having a main body (12,16;32) and andistal portion (18,26;36,46); and a coil (28,56) for endovascular insertion within anvascular cavity, said coil being coupled to said main bodyn(12,16,32) via said distal portion (18,26,36,46) andncomprised of material not susceptible to electrolyticndisintegration in blood; wherein said distal portion (18,26,36,46) isnsusceptible to electrolytic disintegration in bloodnwhereby, on the application of electric current to thenguidewire (10,42) when said coil (28,56) is endovascularlyndisposed in the vascular cavity, endovascularnelectrothrombosis can be performed in the cavity by saidncoil and at least one portion of said distal portionn(18,26,36,46) electrolytically disintegrated to detach saidncoil (28,56) from said main body (12,16,32) to enable thenremoval of the main body (12,16,32) of the core wire whilstnleaving the detached coil (28,56) within the vascularncavity. |
