abstract |
A high-durability printhead (80) for an ink cartridge printing system (10). Thenprinthead (80) includes a substrate (82) having ink ejectors (86) (e.g. resistors) thereonnand an orifice plate (104) positioned above the substrate (82). The orifice plate (104)nhas a top surface (110), bottom surface (112), and a plurality of openings (124)ntherethrough. The orifice plate (104) is optimally produced from a non-metallicnorganic polymeric composition. To improve the durability, heat-stability, and inknresistance of the printhead (80), an intermediate layer (156) manufactured from anthermoplastic polyimide is employed between the orifice plate (104) and the inknejector-containing substrate (82). This particular system generally improves thenstructural integrity of the printhead (80) and provides longer cartridge life. |
