A water-immiscible marker is dissolved in polyethylenenglycol or other suitable carrier, and the marker so dissolvednis added to a waterborne composition which is used as annadditive to a waterborne or water processable composition.nSubsequently, the marker is either extracted with a non-polarnsolvent or detected by means of a surface spot test. From thennon-polar solvent, the marker is extracted with an acidicnaqueous solution or an alkaline aqueous solution, dependingnupon the marker, and color-developed. Likewise, a surfacenspot test can detect the presence of the marker by, ifnnecessary, first softening the marked surface to be testedneither chemically or by thermal means, and developing a colornwith a color-developing reagent placed on the exposednsurface. Applications can include the marking of paint, ncoatings, wax emulsions and water soluble/dispersablenadditives commonly used in water based applications, e.g.,ncement additives. |
