Modified nacreous lustre pigments for water paint systems are based on a plate-like substrate coated with metal oxides and a covering layer located on the top metal oxide layer. The covering layer is made of at least two oxides, a mixture of oxides and/or mixed oxides from the group of silicium dioxide, aluminium oxide, cerium oxide, titanium oxide and zirconium oxide, and of a water-based oligomer silane system. The oligomer silane system can be described for example by the following approximate structure: [HO[Si(A)(OH)Z(CH3)1-ZO]a[Si(B)(OH)Y(CH3)1-YO]b[Si(C)(OH)W(CH3)1-WO]c[Si(D)(OH)V(CH3)1-VO]d[H.(HX)e, in which A is an aminoalkyl radical derived from the general formula (V), B is an glycidetheralkyl radical derived from the general formula (VI), C is an acryloxyalkyl or methacryloxyalkyl radical of general formula (VII), D is an alkyl radical of general formula (VIII), HX is a monobasic acid, wherein X is an inorganic or organic acid radical, such as chloride, nitrate, formiate, acetate, v equals 0 or 1, w equals 0 or 1, y equals 0 or 1, z equals 0 or 1, a+b+c+d>/=4, a</=e</=2a, and 0</=a/(b+c+d)</=3, in particular when a/(b+c+d) equals 0, a = 0 and/or c equals d equals 0 and b>/=1, and when 0.5</=a/(b+c+d)</=3. |
