abstract There are provided aryne intermediates of formula I,nuseful in the manufacture of herbicidal compounds.n n Also provided is a method to prepare the formula Inintermediates via the palladium catalyzed coupling of ann o -halonitrobenzene or o -haloaniline with 3-butyne-1-ol. n The compounds of formula (I) can be hydrated to produce the compoundsnof formula (II), themselves intermedites towards the preparation ofnsulphanoyl urea derivatives of formula (VII).n n In the above formulae, X is NO 2 or NR 1 R 2 ,nZ is OH, Br, Cl or OSO 2 R 3 , R, R 1 ,nR 2 , R 3 , R 5 , R 7 and A having thenvalues given in the application.
