abstract | The invention relates to a process of deactivating a polycarbonate, by mixing anpolycarbonate containing an active alkali metal catalyst residue with a carboxylic acid,nbut not removing the deactivated catalyst. The invention further relates to a process ofndeactivating a polycarbonate, by mixing a solid state polycarbonate containing annactive alkali metal catalyst and a carboxylic acid, followed by heating the mixture ofnstep at a temperature to melt the mixture and deactivate the alkali metal catalyst,nwherein the deactivated catalyst is not removed. The invention further relates to anprocess of making a polycarbonate, by polymerizing a polycarbonate in the presence ofnan alkali metal catalyst to produce an activated polycarbonate, and mixing the activatednpolycarbonate with a carboxylic acid to deactivate the alkali metal catalyst and form anpolycarbonate, wherein the deactivated alkali metal catalyst is not removed from thenpolycarbonate. The invention further relates to products made by the processesndescribed above. The invention further relates to polycarbonates containing an alkalinmetal carboxylate therein. |
