The invention relates to a process for producing mouldings with a barrier layer, in particular moulded packaging structures, made of biodegradable material using a viscous mass which contains biodegradable fibrous material i.e. a mixture of fibres of various lengths, water and starch, and which is baked in a baking mould thus forming a fibrous-material and starch composite; it also relates to mouldings produced by this process. After baking, the moulding is impregnated with cellulose acetate or cellulose acetate propionate without a plasticiser, or provided with a film coating using film based on polyester, polyester amide or poly lactic acid. Alternatively, it has a hydrophobic characteristic due to hydrophobic impregnation of the viscous mass itself after baking. |
