Standardization is achieved for FTIR spectrometric instrumentsnthat effect an intrinsic distortion in spectral information, thendistortion being associated with an aperture size. An idealizednfunction of spectral line shape is specified. With a smallncalibration aperture, spectral data is obtained for a basicnsample having known "true" spectral data, and standard spectralndata also is obtained for a standard sample. With a larger, nnormal sized aperture, standard spectral data is obtained againnfor the calibration sample. A transformation factor, that is anfunction of this data and the standardized function, is appliednto spectral data for test samples to effect standardizedninformation. In another embodiment, the standard sample hasnknown true spectral data, and the basic sample is omitted. Inneither case, the transformation factor is applied to the samplendata in logarithm form, the antilogarithm of the result effectsnthe standardized information. |
