titleOfInvention Optically active alcohol and process for the production thereof
abstract A novel R-configuration or S-configurationnoptically active alcohol of the formula (1),n CF 3 C*H(OH)(CH 2 ) m OCH 2 CH n F 3-n n wherein C* is an asymmetric carbon atom, m is anninteger of 2 to 7, and n is an integer of 0 to 2, nand a process for the production of the optically activenalcohol from a monohalogenated alkyl having anfluoroalkoxy group at a terminal. The novel opticallynactive alcohol, provided by the present invention, havingna trifluoromethyl group on an asymmetric carbon atom andna fluoroalkoxy group at a terminal, is useful as a rawnmaterial for the production of a novel liquid crystalncompound.
