A process for producing 2-methyl naphthalene (2-MN) from a feedstock containing 1-methyl naphthalene (1-MN) involves contacting feedstock with a catalyst composition. The process involves isomerisation of 1-methyl naphthalene. The catalyst composition consists of a synthetic zeolite identified by an X-ray diffraction pattern including specified interplanar d-spacing as follows (interplanar d-spacing (Å), relative intensity(I/Io x 100) ): 12.36+-0.4, M-VS; 11.03+-0.2, M-S; 8.83+-0.14, M-VS; 6.18+-0.12, M-VS; 6.00+-0.10, W-M; 4.06+-0.07, W-S; 3.91+-0.07, M-VS and 3.42+-0.06, VS. W = weak, M = medium, S = strong and VS = very strong. |
