abstract Novel polyglycerol (PG) partial esters (I) are obtained by esterifying a PG mixture with both (i) 12-22C saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched fatty acids and (ii) 4-54C polyfunctional carboxylic acids having a functionality of 2-2.4. The esterification degree of the PG mixture in (I) is 30-75%. Also claimed is the preparation of PG partial esters (not restricted to (I)) by reacting technical PG (a) in a first stage with a saturated or saturated fatty acid to a PG esterification degree of 25-60% then (b) in a second stage with a polyfunctional carboxylic acid to a PG esterification degree of 30-75%.
