abstract Silage is preserved by treatment with a small but silage preserving effective amount of an inoculant selected from: a combination of the microorganism Lactobacillus plantarum 347, or the genetic equivalent thereof, and the microorganism Enterococcus faecium 301, or the genetic equivalent thereof; a combination of the microorganism Lactobacillus plantarum 346, or the genetic equivalent thereof, and the microorganism Lactobacillus plantarum 347, or the genetic equivalent thereof; and a combination of the microorganism Lactobacillus plantarum 286, or the genetic equivalent thereof, and the microorganism Lactobacillus plantarum 346, or a genetic equivalent thereof. The present inoculants are particularly effective in improving the rate and extent of digestibility of alfalfa silage.
