titleOfInvention | Continuous cleaning apparatus and method |
abstract | The present invention relates to a continuousnprocessing apparatus and method for cleaning articles withna liquified compressed gaseous solvent mixture. Thencontinuous processing apparatus includes three processingnchambers (A,B,C) including an entrance chamber (A), a cleaningnchamber (B), and an exit chamber (C). The chambers are provided withnhatches (H1,H2,H3,H4) which are opened and closed at appropriate times tonallow the articles to be cleaned to pass into and out ofnthe chambers. The entrance chamber is used for evacuationnof the incoming articles to remove the majority of the airnand moisture from the articles. After evacuation of thenincoming articles, the entrance chamber is pressurized andnthe articles pass into the cleaning chamber. The cleaningnchamber is maintained at a temperature and a pressure atnwhich the liquified compressed gaseous solvent mixture isnin a subcritical state and a liquid/gas interface existsnbetween a liquid and a gas portion of the liquifiedncompressed gaseous solvent mixture. The cleaned articlesnare then passed into a pressurized exit chamber where thenliquified compressed gaseous solvent mixture remaining innthe articles is evacuated before the cleaned articles arenremoved from the apparatus. |
