titleOfInvention | Silicone foam molding process |
abstract | A method for molding silicone foam into an article having thenfeatures of a designated object. The method includes the steps ofnintroducing a silicone foam mixture into a first mold having a firstncavity, wherein the silicone foam mixture forms a first molded objectne.g. a foam slab, that has a shape which is representative of the firstncavity; removing the first molded object from the first mold; pressingnthe first molded object into a second mold (16) that has a secondncavity, which has a basic profile that is representative of the article, nthe first molded object forming a layer of foam on the top edge (29) ofnthe second mold; cutting the layer to form an open-celled surface on thentop surface of the first molded object; and releasing and removing thenfirst molded object from the second cavity. The open-celled surfacenaquires the configuration that is representative of the second cavity, nwhile the first bottom surface returns to the shape of the first cavity.nA detailed layer having the specific attributes of the article can benapplied to the first molded object through the use of a third mold. |
