abstract The invention relates to an ethylene polymer containing silicon and a method for the preparation thereof, as well as use of the ethylene polymer in compositions for preparing cross-linked structures, such as material for electric cables. In the method, polymerisation is effected of ethylene and at least one monomer copolymerisable with ethylene and including an alpha , omega -divinylsiloxane having formula (I) wherein R1 and R2, which can be alike or different, are selected among alkyl groups having 1-4 carbon atoms and alkoxy group having 1-4 carbon atoms, and n = 1-200. The prepared ethylene copolymers have enhanced water tree resistance and an increased degree of unsaturation. The unsaturation can be used for the cross-linking of the ethylene copolymer or for the grafting of reactive groups.
