titleOfInvention | Method for the production of nitrile rubber |
abstract | Nitrile rubber can be synthesized byncopolymerizing acrylonitrile and 1,3-butadiene in annaqueous emulsion. After these monomers have beennpolymerized, it is, of course, necessary to recovernthe polymer from the aqueous emulsion. The presentninvention discloses an improved method for thenrecovery of nitrile rubber from a nitrile rubberncontaining emulsion, said method comprising the stepsnof (1) adding an antioxidant to the nitrile rubberncontaining emulsion to produce a stabilized nitrilenrubber emulsion, (2) adding a salt and an acid to saidnstabilized nitrile rubber emulsion to produce ancoagulated nitrile rubber slurry, wherein saidncoagulated nitrile rubber slurry is comprised of serumnand nitrile rubber crumb, (3) separating the nitrilenrubber crumb from the serum in the coagulated nitrilenrubber slurry, (4) mixing the nitrile rubber crumbninto wash water to produce a nitrile rubber reslurry,n(5) adjusting the pH of the nitrile rubber reslurry sonas to be within the range of 5 to 8, and (6)nseparating the nitrile rubber crumb from the washnwater of the nitrile rubber reslurry. Nitrile rubbernwhich is recovered from emulsions utilizing thisntechnique typically exhibits improved stability andncure characteristics. |
