titleOfInvention Gum tissue retraction device and method
abstract A moldable material (10) formed over teeth (12) with a second flowable material (18) containing an astringent placed into the impression (20) of the teeth (12) in the moldable material (10) providing retraction and hemostasis at the gum line. A moldable material (10), preferably a silicone, which may contain an astringent such as aluminum ammonium sulfate, is made into a mold of teeth (12). The impression formed in the mold of the teeth (12) is filled with a less viscous or initially flowable material (18) also containing an astringent. The mold with the flowable material (18) is placed over the teeth (12). The initially flowable material (18) preferably sets into a solid. The flowable material (18) may be made of a condensation silicon having a base and catalyst. The mold helps to apply pressure to the flowable material (18) which is transmitted to the gum tissue resulting in retraction and hemostasis.
