abstract |
Antimicrobial composition for preserving aqueous systems comprises beta -bromo-beta -nitrostyrene (I) and a benzyl ester of a 2-4C carboxylic acid (II) as an inert and biodegradable carrier. Also claimed is a method for forming an antimicrobial solution of (I) in benzene acetate comprising eliminating HBr from 1,2-dibromo-2-nitroethylbenzene (III) in toluene solution by treatment with NaOAc and removing the toluene in the presence of benzyl acetate or eliminating HBr from (III) in toluene solution and removing toluene in the presence of (II). |
