A process for preparing 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane by reducing 2,3-dichloro-1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane as a raw material with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst by a vapor-phase process, characterized in that the catalyst is a hydrogenation catalyst comprising palladium and at least one additive metal selected from the group consisting of silver, gold, copper, zinc, rhenium, cobalt, nickel, iridium, ruthenium, rhodium, tantalum, niobium, molybdenum, osmium and tungsten. This process using a hydrogenation catalyst having a long service life permits the preparation of useful 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane in a high yield, thus being advantageous economically. |
