Proposed is a powder of silica-cerium oxide composite particlesnuseful as an ultraviolet shielding agent in a resin compositionnor as a sunscreening agent in a cosmetic composition. The ceriumnoxide-based composite particles consist of cerium oxide and 5 ton60% by weight of amorphous silica calculated as SiO 2 . The compositenparticles are prepared by the addition of sodium silicate andnan inorganic acid to an aqueous slurry containing precipitates ofncerium hydroxide so as to precipitate amorphous silica on the particlesnof cerium hydroxide followed by drying and calcination of thenparticles separated from the reaction mixture. Various formulationsnof cosmetic compositions compounded with the silica-ceriumnoxide composite particles are disclosed. |
