Epoxy-containing compounds are prepared by: (1) providing an allyl reagent; (2) allylating one or more compounds containing at least one active-hydrogen atom per molecule using the allyl reagent from step (1), whereby an allyl ether, allyl amine or allyl thioether compound is formed; and (3) converting the allyl groups on the compound from step (2) to epoxide groups, whereby a glycidyl ether, glycidyl amine or glycidyl thioether compound is formed, characterized in that the allyl reagent is an allyl carboxylate or allyl carbonate. The epoxy-containing compounds are useful in coatings, castings and laminates. |
