A polyester-modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin is formed of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and an aliphatic polyester grafted on the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer. The content of the polyester is from 2 to 98 wt.%, while the content of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer is from 98 to 2 wt.%. The number average molecular weight is from 10,000 to 600,000. The polyester-modified ethylenevinyl alcohol copolymer resin can be produced by subjecting a lactone to ring-opening polymerization in the presence of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin. A coating composition, a formed product of a plasticized vinyl chloride coated with the coating composition, and a gas barrier material, all making use of the polyester-modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer, are also disclosed. |
