abstract |
A process for the production of a naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, which process comprises:n (a) oxidising dialkyl naphthalene; (b) dissolving the thus obtained crude naphthalenedicarboxylic acid in an aqueous solution containing an aliphatic or alicyclic amine; (c)n (i) removing heavy metal impurities until the content of the heavy metal impurities based on the crude naphthalenedicarboxylic acid is 100 ppm or less, and/or (ii) contacting the thus obtained naphthalenedicarboxylic acid amine salt with a metal belonging to group VIII of the periodic table in an inert gas atmosphere, and/or (iii) crystallizing the thus obtained naphthalenedicarboxylic acid amine salt in a solvent comprising water and an aliphatic or alicyclic ketone; and (d) heating the thus obtained naphthalenedicarboxylic acid amine salt to remove the amine. |
