abstract This invention is a fluid collection apparatus (10) for the controlled collection of body fluids comprising a collection vessel (12) housed in a carrier (20), a vacuum pump (14) mounted in the carrier (20), and means (50, 52) for powering the pump (14) for continuous operation mounted therein. The collection vessel (12) includes a valved exit port (26), an inlet port (30) connected to a body mounted fluid collection apparatus (241), a vacuum control means (236), liquid level control means (38), and a tilt sensing means, all operatively connected. Also described are a vent assembly in the drainage valve (26), and sound and odor absorbing components (182).
