abstract |
Impact additive of core/shell type consists of 70-90 wt.% core based on alkyl acrylate and 30-10 wt.% shell based on alkyl polymethacrylate or styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer. Cross-linked elastomeric core comprises 20-100 pref. 20-90 wt.% nucleus consisting of copolymer(I) of 5-12C alkyl acrylate or mixt. of 2-12C alkyl acrylates or a polyorganosiloxane rubber, and 0.05-5 wt.% polyfunctional cross-linking agent contg. unsatd. groupings of which at least one is vinylic and, eventually, polyfunctional grafting agent contg. unsatd. groupings of which at least one is allylic; and up to 80 wt.% outer layer consisting of copolymer(II) of 4-12C alkyl acrylate or mixt. of alkyl acrylates as in (I), and 0.05-0.25 wt.% grafting agent with unsaturated groupings of which at least one is allylic. Shell grafted onto core comprises 1-4C alkyl methacrylate polymer, or a statistical copolymer of 1-4C alkyl methacrylate and 1-8C alkyl acrylate contg. 5-40 mol.% alkyl acrylate, or styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer. Also claimed is a compsn. contg. the additive. |
