abstract Prepn. and fermentation of 13-substd. 3-methoxy-8,14-seco-1,3,5(10), 9(11)-gona-tetraen-14,17-diones (I) in aq. media by suspension comprises: (a) mixing 1 part steroid with 2-9 parts of a mixt. of water, emulsifier and anti-foaming agent at 80-95 degrees C with Prohalyt G20-40 or Tween as emulsifier and polypropylene-glycol or polypropylene-glycol/corn germ oil as anti-foaming agent in the ratio 2.5:1 - 1:2 and an amt. of 1-5 wt.% w.r.t. water according to steroid content, (b) stirring the above mixt., (c) melting then cooling and (d) adding the fermentation medium as a suspension.
