abstract The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling the surface condition of a polished part. The part (1) is illuminated by a test pattern (2) having alternately light and dark zones, the light reflected by said part is detected by a detection device (3) sensitive to the light contrasts pixel by pixel, the test pattern (2) having been previously configured and / or the detection device (3) being arranged so that the target image reflected towards it forms a flat screen (6) of alternately light and dark zones regularly distributed, and we examine on the image thus reflected variations in contrast caused by surface irregularities, including local roughness at all points on the examined surface of the part, by diffusion of the light reflected from the contrasts of the frame.
