abstract Process for the purification of a gaseous feed stream comprising acrolein together with water, acids and inert gas, esp. a prod. stream from the gas phase oxidn. of propylene, comprises (i) in a first step, fractionating the feed stream into a gaseous effluent and a liq. stream in a cooling column operating under conditions such that the temp. of the liq. stream at the foot of the column is less than or equal to the dew point of the gaseous feed stream, the temp. difference being not more than 20 degrees C; and (ii) in a second stage, condensing the gaseous effluent from step (i) at a temp. below 20 degrees C to give a liq. fraction and a purified gaseous fraction. Also claimed is an appts. for carrying out the process.
