abstract A method for the manufacture of bleach activators is provided. The process comprises dissolving an acid halide or anhydride in a water miscible hydroxyl-free solvent prior to reaction with an aqueous dispersion of an aryl hydroxysulphonate. The aqueous dispersion additionally comprises an alkali, especially sodium hydroxyde. The preferred organic solvent is acetone. The process is particularly suited to the situation where the acid halide or anhydride is a solid or poorly soluble in water and in such situations can offer improvements in yield over the processes of the prior art.
