abstract |
A process of continuously operated heterogeneously catalyzed gas phase oxidation of propylene to acrolein, acrylic acid or their mixture in an oxidation reactor, the feed gas mixture of which, in addition to propylene and molecular oxygen as the oxidizing agent, only comprises at least one diluent gas which is essentially inert under the conditions of heterogeneously catalyzed gas phase oxidation and at which is separated from the product gas mixture in continuous operation and at least a portion of the essentially inert diluent gases contained therein and is reused as a component of the feed gas mixture, the essentially inert diluent gas mixture containing more than 85% by volume of at least one of 1 to 5 carbon atoms saturated hydrocarbon. |
