A method for preparing glyoxal which comprises oxidizing/dehydrogenating ethylene glycol at 500-700°C in the presence of a catalyst comprising a silver alloy having a melting point higher than the melting point of silver, and a phosphorus compound. n The silver catalyst for the preparation of glyoxal can be activated by immersing a silver catalyst used in the oxidizing/dehydrogenating reaction of ethylene glycol into an acid which does not react with silver. |
