titleOfInvention | Liquid core optical waveguide |
abstract | An optical waveguide for transmitting radiation is provided. In one embodiment the waveguide includes a flexible tube (4) of a material substantially transparent to the radiation, and a liquid core (1) filling the tube and having a refractive index greater than that of the tube material. In another embodiment the waveguide includes a tube (4) having an inner lining (5), and a liquid core (1) filling the tube and having a refractive index greater than that of the lining material. In a still further embodiment there is provided an optical wavegudie for transmitting radiation and functioning as a non-imaging concentrator (6), which waveguide includes a tube having an input end, an output end and a tube body (4), and a liquid core (1) filling the tube; wherein the diameter of the tube at the input end and/or the output end is greater than the diameter of the tube body. |
