titleOfInvention | Method for the formation of liposomes and compositions for use therein |
abstract | A method of forming liposomes, bilayered structures or a film formed by the collapse of such structures which comprises removing a proportion of the organic liquid from a composition comprising: a) at least one bilayer forming lipid; b) at least one volatile water-miscible organic liquid; and c) a hydrophilic medium, whereupon the composition spontaneously forms liposomes or bilayered structures. The hydrophilic medium may be water, glycerol, propylene glycol, a polyethylene glycol or a mixture of two or more thereof. A composition for use in this method is also described, together with liposomes or bilayered structures formed therefrom. The composition may include biologically active ingredients, such as medicaments and/or fragrances. The method and composition are particularly suited to the formation of liposomes on biological surfaces, such as skin, where removal of the organic liquid would occur through evaporation. |
