abstract |
Provided herein is an improved process to prepare lithographic printing plates. An embodiment of the process comprises mechanical graining of the substrate surface, followed by electrochemical graining in an acid medium using a symmetrical alternating current in the range of 10-500 coulombs/dm2, and then conditioning of the surface by treating it with a solution of partially neutralized polyvinylphosphonic acid maintained in a pH range of about 2.5 to 6. Such a process yields lithographic plates with high adhesion, excellent contrast and reduced background toning. |
