abstract | An organic gas distinguishing apparatus for reliably distinguishing different kinds of organic gas is disclosed. The apparatus comprises m sensor members which are arranged along a fuel vapor passage and each of which exhibits inherent reflective characteristics when in contact with different m kinds of organic gas, wherein m is an integer of 2 or more. Light source members are provided for each of the m sensor members for irradiating a corresponding one of the sensor members. Detecting members are provided for each of the sensor members for receiving light emitted from a corresponding one of the m light source members and reflected from the corresponding one of the sensor members so as to output a signal representing the intensity of the received light. n The organic gases can be distinguished on the basis of the signs of the obtained differences by comparing the differences in magnitude between signals obtained from respective m kinds of organic gas by the detecting members. |
