THERMALLY REVERSIBLE THICKENING BINDER COMPOSITION |
abstract |
A heat-reversible thickenable binder composition comprising a resin latex containing at most 0.01 mmol/g of an emulsifier in the watery phase and a vinyl polymer having the hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity reversibly switched over at a specified temperature or the turning point. A preferable latex is one produced by using an emulsifier having a radical-polymerizable group, while a preferable polymer is one having a cation-forming group. The composition does not cause migration of latex particles toward the coating surface during drying by heat, is excellent in the chemical resistance to various factors other than heat, and has a heat-reversible thickenability with a sharp temperature-sensitive gelation tendency. When applied to the production of coated paper or pressure-sensitive recording sheet, it can provide products excellent in gloss, printability and color development. |
