abstract This invention discloses a process comprising reacting diethylene glycol and morpholine in the presence of hydrogen over a catalyst selected from the group consisting of copper; cobalt on amorphous silica; and cobalt on alumina to produce compounds having the formulae:n n This invention also discloses a process comprising recycling product compound (2) into the same reaction to increase the yield to compound (1). Compound (1) is known by the names 4,4'-(oxydi-2,1-ethanediyl) bis -morpholine; bis (morpholinoethyl)ether; N,N',2,2'-dimorpholinodiethylether or TEXACAT® DMDEE. Compound (2) is known by the names 4-(2(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl) morpholine and hydroxyethoxyethyl morpholine (HEEM).
