abstract The invention relates to 2-nitroalkyl ethers of native or modified starch, which ethers are granular, have an average molecular weight of at least 300,000 and optionally carry further substituents on the alkyl group and to a method for preparing same. The invention further relates to ethers derived from such 2-nitroalkyl ethers in that the nitro group has been reduced to an amino group and optionally has also been converted with a compound containing a cationic or anionic group. Finally, the invention relates to the use of such 2-nitroalkyl ethers and ethers derived therefrom, inter alia as adhesive or as additive in paper-making.
