abstract The drill chuck has a chuck body (1), clamping jaws (5) guided in the chuck body, which can be adjusted by a clamping ring (8) for opening and closing the drill chuck, an adjusting ring (9) being used to actuate it. A locking device (11) for the clamping ring consists of a ring of locking recesses (10) and a locking member (12) which is inserted under spring force into the locking recesses (10), the locking member (12) the clamping ring (8) in the Opening the drill chuck locks the corresponding direction of rotation against twisting, but turning the clamping ring (8) in the opposite direction of rotation, i.e. corresponding to the closing of the chuck, enables it. In order to be able to adjust the locking member (12) into a state disengaged from the locking recesses (10), the adjusting ring (9) limited rotatable relative to the clamping ring (8). The locking device is formed between the clamping ring (8) and the chuck body (1). Between the adjusting ring (9) and the clamping ring (8) there is a latching device (17) which has two latching positions in the circumferential direction, the locking member (12) in the latched-in recesses (10) in the one latched position and in the other rest position is in the disengaged state. The drill chuck is handled with regard to tensioning, releasing and actuating the locking device solely by rotating the adjusting ring (9) relative to the chuck body (1).
