Internal graft prosthesis and delivery system |
abstract |
A resilient tubular graft (G) is delivered into place within a body passage by elongating the graft (G) to reduce its diameter and then directing the graft (G) to the desired position while in the elongated condition. The graft (G) is carried into position by a pair of elongated members (10, 16) mounted for longitudinal movement relative to one other. Flexible lines (26, 38) secure opposite ends of the graft to the respective elongate members (10, 16) whereby relative longitudinal movement of the members functions to elongate the graft and reduce its diameter. The lines (26, 28) extend around the graft (G) to impart radial compression thereto simultaneously with elongation of the graft. Upon placement of the graft (G) at the desired location within a body passage, the lines (26, 38) are released to permit the graft (G) to expand into engagement with the passage. Barbs (B) on the graft (G) provide for secure engagement of the graft (G) with a body passage. |
