Isocyanate prepolymers with a NCO content of 1.5-5.0 wt.% and a monomeric di-isocyanate content of less than 0.5 wt.% (I) comprise reaction prods. of (A) an isocyanate component contg. mainly aromatic or cycloaliphatic di-isocyanate(s) with (B) a polyol component contg. (B1) polyether-polyol(s) with a mol.wt. of 1000-3000 and a (mean) OH functionality of 2-4, an (B2) polyester carbonate diol(s) with a mol. wt. of 700-3000 based on (i) diol(s) with a mol.wt. of not more than 200, (ii) epsilon-caprolactone (EL) and/or epsilon-hydroxycaproic acid with a mole ratio of (i):(ii) = (4:1)-(1:3) and (iii) diaryl carbonates, with a wt. ratio of (B1):(B2) = (0.125:1)-(1.5:1). Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of (I) by reaction of (A) and (B) at an equiv. ratio of NCO/OH = at least 1.5:1, opt. followed by distn. to remove unreacted di-isocyanate monomer. |
